THE DWARVES OF THE TRACKLESS NORTH
R.R.Ryder

The Indrilsaman

• Throughout the epochs of Chalice there are few races that can be called true masters of their craft, compared to the elves. Indrilsaman Dwarves are this race; It is said their skill at creating rare and precious items were unmatched of all the races including and their own kin the Nieblung dwarves. They were great artificers even during the time of Aros Findalin, the Rhune lord. It was their skills in creating weapons and items for the lord of first magic that allowed Aros to create the seven tablets that sealed the Saugrim, in the north of Aerbor. After the conflict, the Indrilsaman decided to remain in the north and created great holds known as the Indril’tharadon, the Gem kingdoms. For ages the dwarves dwelled on the frozen north, deep underground in their mountain halls, or their peaked citadels. Here they mined the rarest minerals and gems, from flowing rivers of molten lava, or chiseled out of the great stone mountains walls of their homes. The Nieblung Dwarves where ever the most hearty of folk and craftsmen. To all across the lands their fame was heralded for the wares they crafted. Fine glittering rings and chains could be found around the neck of any nobles since the time of Findalin. There reign lasted over a thousand years, until the Dusk Cataclysm, and the turn to shadow.

Delving Deep

• The greatest of the nine gem kingdoms of the north, was Delving Deep. Dwarf Scholars in modern times have sought to find the ancient citadel of the Indrilsaman, to no avail. What is known and proven, sometime during the chaos of the Dusk cataclysm, each of the nine gem kingdoms of the north were destroyed by ork and Sworgan hoard, or various other means like plagues, and spells until the last remaining hold was Delving Deep. Of all the gem kingdoms, Delving Deep was the most advanced, it fame was legend, and greed brought many to it door steps. Orks and Sworgs from the beast kingdom known as Janibar was the first to feel the true might of the dwarves, as they unleashed their cannon and smoke powder. Janibar was laid waste, by axes and fire.

• Varis-lem the lord of the north, sued for peace while he lived, and the kingdom of Escanthantor, and Delving Deep, forged a mighty friendship. The doom of Delving Deep came not with loud thunderous war, but quite unassuming travel. A quickling by the name of Findantal, was a slave in the Feydawn by Formorian giants, escaped through a portal that appeared neared the dwarf city. The Formorians, horrid creatures created by the Abad’Jigad, through a quirk of fate, found Delving Deep forgetting Findantal, the quickling, they returned to their home, and alerted their master of the city they found. The Formorian’s through their black arts, created a doorway that led to Delving Deep and marched on them in full force, with many of their slaves.

The coming of Infrilglama the gold Phoenix-fall of Delving Deep.

• The true conqueror of Delving Deep was the master of the Fomorians, a Phoenix known as Infrilglama the golden fire. Once a believer, and follower of the Imortalis god Paradine, during the Morn Wars Infrilglama, turned on her master and sought her own destiny believing that her course was to rule lesser being than herself. Paradine banished the phoenix, to the Feydawn in the hopes that the creature would mend its evil ways. This was far from the result. Infrilglama quickly bent to others to her rule, first a small kingdom of Formorians beneath the Umbrel Delve, and quickly all that stood in her domain. Once she had conquered all she wished, Infrilglama slept, watched over by her faithful servants. Delving Deep was too good a prize to let loose from her claws, for phoenix’s have a deep love of gems and precious metals, and Delving Deep was the largest treasure trove the phoenix had ever known of. Infrilglama wasted no time, in sending her armies, of creatures against the dwarves. In the end her might was just too great for the dwarves shattering their resolve and casting them out of their fabled home. The phoenix took the city and its wealth and has been there ever since.
